Behind the Ride:
Build for Off Road Adventure Ride Updates
Factory Five Racing Joins the Adventure Ride with the XTF Pre-Runner!
While much of the focus for the Build for Off Road Adventure Ride has been on the rock-crawling rigs tackling the most punishing trails, support trucks also play a crucial role in expeditions like this. Even if these vehicles aren’t attempting white-knuckle obstacles like Backdoor in Johnson Valley, they still need to be capable of handling challenging off-road terrain, carrying gear, and providing support for the entire crew.
That’s why Factory Five Racing is joining the Adventure Ride and sending its capable XTF test truck into the fray as a pre-runner. This incredible vehicle is no stranger to being pushed to its limits. As Factory Five has developed its XTF kit for the Ford F-150, this “test mule” has been put through its paces from coast-to-coast—from FFR’s home base in Massachusetts, to the FOX Shocks testing facility in Ocotillo, CA, and even some testing for military use.
But with the chance to conquer some of America’s toughest off-road trails, the Factory Five team brought their truck to Ian Johnson’s shop for additional upgrades. These new modifications, designed to make the XTF even more Adventure Ride-ready, will be featured in an upcoming episode of Build for Off Road!
We caught up with Nate Johnson from Factory Five Racing while he was in Ian’s shop working on the truck. Check out our exclusive interview below for a peek behind the scenes at what modifications the XTF truck is getting, and why Nate is looking forward to getting seasoned off-roaders like Ian Johnson and Brad Lovell behind the wheel.
Hands-On with Off-Roaders during the Adventure Ride
Nate says the Adventure Ride will allow Factory Five Racing to immerse the XTF truck directly into the off-road community, giving enthusiasts a chance to get up-close and personal with the truck and truly see what it can do. He’s hoping the feedback he gets from the Adventure Ride participants will prove invaluable as FFR develops the next generation of the XTF kit.
The goal for this next generation of the kit is to fit brand-new models of the F-150, all the way up to 2028. “So, if someone wants a brand-new truck,” says Nate, “take it off the lot, put our chassis underneath it, and go out and have fun!”
