Two Guys Garage Kicks Off Its 20th Season
Brenton Productions
“Nobody thought about doing a car repair show on television,” says Dave Bowman, reflecting on the origins of Two Guys Garage, of which he was one of the original hosts. The series kicks off its 20th anniversary season April 4 on MotorTrend.
Reaching 20 seasons is a rare and significant milestone for any TV show; but for Brenton Productions, the anniversary carries special significance. Two Guys Garage has roots in not only Brenton Productions’ own origin story, but also in the origins of the automotive how-to television genre as a whole.
With the goal of creating well-produced, authentic TV content with trusted expert hosts, Brenton Productions partnered with TNN in 1992 to develop Shadetree Mechanic – one of the very first automotive how-to TV series with products and brands integrated into the storyline. The series was eventually reimagined as Two Guys Garage, which now finds its home on MotorTrend and the MotorTrend App.
“That really was kind of the launching pad for what you see today in terms of all the car repair shows you see,” says Bowman.
Long-time fans of Two Guys Garage can look forward to seeing Bowman and other past hosts of the show, including Sam Memmolo and Bryan Fuller, join episodes with current hosts Kevin Byrd and Willie B to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the series.
